Great Barrier Reef :) ....

The one and only....... GREAT Barrer Reef.
Day 4 of staying in Cairns i went to the Reef :) I got up bright and early with somebody else's phone as i sat on my phone by accent and broke the screen..tut, me and phones ! . I made sure i went down to the mariner the night before so i knew exactly where i was going.I didn't want to miss the boat in one of my frantic rushes i have in the mornings so.. well organised i would say ;) haha. I walked along the quite roads of Cairns around 5.30am,got to the mariner to find nobody standing there thought i might of missed the boat.I was very worried as this was a trip not to be missed.Eventually the pontoon started to become busier and the boats were loaded with there supplies. We soon set sail and were off, tea and biscuits were soon offered, and a demonstration video was played as we headed towards the reef.I always had a thought of sharks in the back of my mind, but was very eager to get in the water as the dvd sold it to me.We stopped at a few lush islands along the way to pick up and drop of passengers which was cool, then we were off again. The sea was really rough both ways and i am not one for the sea so didn't feel to good am sure some of you know the feeling...not nice. 3 hours later we arrived on this magnificent reef blue as you like and got kitted up with snorkels.Yet again i was thinking about those bloody sharks  and was shaking as was freezing getting into a wet wetsuit.Everybody got in and we were swimming around so  i gradually crept into the water and was clinging to this rubber ring as not a great swimmer haha. The first time i dunked my head under i was blown away with how clear the water was, and all the brightly coloured coral was just breath taking. After half an hour of swimming around the coral  and trying to empty my goggles of water, we jumped back on-board for some lunch !. After lunch we had a briefing about scuba diving and then got ready to go, i was looking forward to this bit :) I got everything on and sat on the edge of the boat with my legs dangling over the side, then had this thought of a shark like "JAWS" coming up from under the boat and biting my leg off haha...nutter.We were all in eventually and hung on to the bottom of the boat, where the instructor went through the breathing apparatus.I was thinking about things waaay to much at this point, like what if i got water in my mouth when i  was submerged at the bottom frightened me a little especially not being a strong swimmer. After my moments of thinking through things, we sank to the bottom of the reef and started exploring!.The reef looked much better from this perspective and even got to see a giant clam, which i stayed well away from haha.. I've seen the comics.Time flew by and we had to return back to the boat and head home,i was soo soo tired, but was a brilliant day and what an experience well worth a look .
One of the Lush green Islands.
Little fact about the Reef if you didn't already know:The Reef grow's once a year and the whole reef, all 1600miles of it grows  at once.

Is that a Shark behind.... haha

Skydive !.....

Ok..SKYDIVE !!! I booked it in Cairns just willy nilly as i knew i wanted to do it,it wasn't in till afterwards  that i realised what i just booked haha.
I arrived in Mission Beach on a bright and sunny day and that would be the day i was doing it :) i couldn't stop thinking about it all day, thinking that in a few hours i would be jumping out of a plane!!!!!!
Mission Beach is a really nice town but wilth noting there apart from a really long beach...mission to walk ?  who who where that name came from. There was extensive damage to a lot of the tree's and a few houses as Cyclone Yassi had hit the surrounding area earlier that year.
A few hours later after hanging around and having some chicken noodles...i was a pro at cooking noodles back then ;) it was time to do my Skydive.A guy in a van picked me up from my hostel and drove me into town where i then waited around for 1 HOUR ! that was the worst bit of the whole experience i think nerves where really kicking in haha. A whole 1 Hour later i met the person i would be jumping with and he went through all the drills on how to open a life jacket and so on....lets face it if you do fall into the water your probably not going to survive any ways so... yh that didn't help my confidence nor did seeing him roll the parachute up ! We all got kitted up and were on hour way to the airport which was half an hour away, everybody was really excited and were chatting away, whereas i  was crunched up with nervers thinking what the bloody hell am i doing????? We arrived at the runway and i saw the plane running, that gets your heart going for sure ! no messing around, you get in then your off. Within minutes we were hammering down the runway WITH the door open !,the take off was a step one and a long one for that matter. We were soon climbing to an altitude of 14,000ft i soon thought we must be nearing getting half way but "no he said not even close".I think the instructor new i was nervous as i asked him every question under the sun haha quite literally, then he strapped me on and i remember asking "is this on tight enough?" haha. The plane door was yet again opened and people started to go !, within seconds i was the last one and he started to slide me along towards the door.I felt the ice cold  air on my legs  and the sound of the propellers in my ears as i dangled my legs over the edge and under the plane as instructed. Seconds later he threw us out of the plane and we rolled completely over in till settling intp the horizontal position, the worst bit was over and i was loving it, one of the best feelings, i can't describe it apart from feels like your falling just one of the things you have to experience yourself i think.60 seconds later he deployed the parachute and we were gliding around still quite high up at this point,i felt a little ill almost as if i had been on a high speed roller-coaster think it was the adrenalin and the anxiety and the relief that the parachute had opened haha. The ground got closer and closer intill i could hear the air rushing past my ears and then we touched down on the beach... prety awesome !. Happened all so fast the waiting around..well maybe not that bit but the driving, the take off and now within 5 minutes i was back on the ground amazing.I would definitely recommend it great experience,i was happy for the next few days haha, just wanted to say i had done a Skydive :) ....

Up next The Great Barrier Reef :) ......

Thumbs Up...

Flight to Cairns/Cairns....

It was time to get out of Sydney i was there far too long 10 weeks, thats more than enough time 2 weeks is really, but anyways yh i booked my flight to Cairns for $200 on jetstar and i jetted off the next morning.I had never been on a domestic flight before and especially not for 3hours 30, Australia is huge ! I remember it was a small plane and a hot day so got very uncomfortable inside the plane.Coming into land we had a great view you could see small waterfalls, huge mountains the lot.As soon as we departed the plane i was on full alert for spiders haha especially being right up the top of Australia in the tropical climate.Everyone was gathered round the baggage reclaim and my bag just didn't come, everyone had left and i was thinking i hope it is not still in Sydney. That would have been funny..not anyways finally it came through and i made my way outside to the bus station where there were a number of buses waiting.I went round asking all the drivers which bus i had to get on one by one, they all said the same thing "dunno m8" in a strong aussi accent this was not the first time i had been in this situation..remember sydney airport haha.Luckily there was guy getting on the same bus so we jumped aboard when it eventually came and headed into town, had a really eerie feeling about it quite..spose it would be after coming from a big city.I arrived at my hostel and was greeted by sombody i had met in Sydney a few weeks previous how weird...It was a nice hostel with a swimming pool, which by the way is very common in most hostels on the east coast and you pay less ! Every night we ate in the Woolshed which serves free meals for certain hostels which is always a plus :) there is always something happening in there too!!! .Cairns it's self is quite small but has  big night life, lots of clubs and bars.It is a popular spot for backpackers being at the top, a lot of people travel down the coast how ever you can do the opposite and travel up being the last destination on your list.I did most of trips from Cairns like the Great Barrier Reef,White water rafting and so on so had a busy week during my stay .One of the things to do in Cairns is chill out at the Lagoon, everybody was telling me you must visit the Lagoon so i got up to Cairns thinking it would be a nice big open Lagoon like a big lake basically. No the Lagoon is just an ice cold swimming pool which was a real let down, you can't even go in the sea as crocodiles inhabit the area but all in all Cairns is a nice area :) .

Sight Seeing/The Woodduck....

Over the course of the next week or so i did plenty of sight seeing like visiting the Sydney Opera house and taking a day trip to the Blue mountains, which is a must do by the way! The weather conditions could have been slightly better, it was tipping down most days which kind of reminded me of home.Sydney is a bit like visiting London, at first bit dull and Gray but gets better the longer you stay.As the day's flew by, i started to get to know people as you tend to pass them going up or down the hundreds of stairs several times a day.The hostel its self ...well it wasn't great but the location was fabulous and rooftop had a brilliant view. One of the things i noticed during my stay, was that there was a huge amount of German backpackers which was not great,as i wanted to meet a wide range of backpackers from all over the world. The hardest thing i would have to do in this period  would be finding a job, the thing is, i only came to Australia with $280.My accommodation was $150 a week for a 12 bed dorm, soooo that took a big chunk out which then left me with $130 and money was running out fast, cheap meal's it is then huge variety on the menu was pasta or...... noodles :).I was wondering what i was going to do, thought i would have to return home.Luckily i bought a return plane ticket before i went to oz just in case, so at least i had something to fall back on .I tried really really hard to get a job as i knew i would regret going home. After endless amounts of phone calls and yes i did have credit ;) i finally found some work only for 2 days, but 2 days would do, anything for a bit of cash to get me another week at the hostel. After that i managed to find a job and stick with that for a while which enabled me to save up for my trip up the East Coast ! I ended up staying in this hostel for 10 weeks as i met a good crowd of  people staying long term.Over this period we all had endless amounts of laughter and  had  great times together drinking lots of Goon :) .For those of you that don't know what Goon  is,it is boxed wine containing fish eggs and tastes like... well i'll  let you find out. hmmm..

Next Stop East Coast stay tuned.. :)

My Luxury Meal...                                                                                    Not the Best Weather...

No Pick Up At Airport........

soooo....carrying on from no one to pick me up at the airport.I frantically walked up and down the airport terminal looking for somebody with a clip board with my name on but no one to be seen . Silly me i had no credit on my phone nor had i written the hostels number down.I asked all of the help desk's and just about every shuttle service to see if anybody knew where my hostel was or if there was even a bus. After walking up and down the airport numerous amount of times i finally found a foreign guy who seemed to know where it was.At that point i had a big sigh of relief and within minutes we were all crammed onto this small bus.The bus was packed with middle aged people and i kept thinking this isn't right, so i tired speaking to as many people as i could so try and find out where they would be staying..turn's out luxury hotels. As time went on i ended up being the last person on the bus, the bus driver barely spoke a word of English and had his music blaring which didn't help.I thought can this trip get any worst .We drove past this park which i had recognised from the internet i knew it was near there so i ask him"is it round here?"he replied "no it has moved" so i sat back and let him drive.Eventually we arrived at what looked like to be a derelict building in the dark.He said "that's it but it's closed"i replied sharpish "what do you mean, so what do i do ?" he aggressively replied  "i can't help you i don't know maybe try the sister hostel around the corner" and sped off haha .Great i thought just great bloody t#%t ! . i walked round the corner and saw it. Then guess what ............a guy is waiting there with a sign in his hand with my name on well well.... i did'nt know what to say apart from "where were you ? he said "i was waiting at the airport for you man" i could tell he was lying he nose grow about 10inches and we both knew that was'nt the case.Anyway i was there and happy to be there .He then walked me across the road and unlocked the door .Personall i don't think it is very good nobody being there and the door being locked, spose you would have credit on your phone....cough cough.First person i met Rico who is now a friend of mine was at reception that night checked me in and gave me a key and a dirty mug not great impressions so far . I started to trek up the stairs slowly one by one felt like there was hundreds didn't help with half my wardrobe on my back .Finally i made it to the top and into my room, i just flung myself onto the last spare bed along with my bags still strapped to me haha.I sat up and was  just mesmerised by the view and what a view it was skyscrapers galore!.At this point i was the only one in the room as it was a Thursday night and every one was out clubbing the night away or so i presumed.I had this feeling like an empty feeling probably because i hadn't eaten in a while, but yh still remember like it was yesterday like what am i doing here, now what but i was glad to finally be there ..... stay tuned for part 3 :)
